About
Rita Sidhu B.A. LL.B.Rita was born in New Westminster, B.C. and raised in Abbotsford.
She grew up on a produce and berry farm on Sumas Prairie. As the third of five children, her parents instilled in her the importance of hard work and education from a very young age.
After completing the rigorous International Baccalaureate program in high school, she was awarded scholarships to complete a year of study at the international campus at Queen’s University at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England.
After this, she spent the summer visiting the great monuments, art galleries and museums of Europe before returning to study at the University of British Columbia.
A year later Rita again studied abroad when she participated in an exchange programme at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
She forged lifelong friendships before returning to UBC to complete her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in International Relations.
Following this, Rita was selected to complete an internship sponsored by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in New Delhi, India.
While in India she worked at a private, independent, non-profit company supported by the Government of Canada to market Canada as an international study destination.
Upon her return to Canada, Rita chose to study law. After completing her law degree at UBC in 2006, she obtained articles in criminal law at the firm of Cobb St. Pierre Lewis.
More recently, after being called to the Bar of British Columbia in 2007, Rita practiced personal injury law in the Broadway corridor of Vancouver.
In her free time, Rita enjoys travelling, spending time with family, and living a life less ordinary.
