Asim is the managing partner of Mehdi Au LLP. The firm was created with a view to looking at clients as the core of its practice.
Throughout Asim’s 9 years in practicing law he observed two very disturbing themes that existed in the vast majority of law firms.
The first being that of clients effectively becoming regarded as simple file numbers and thus an entry on a balance sheet.
The creation of this firm seeks to change this trend and treat clients as more than just a file by appreciating and understanding their core goals in whatever legal matter they bring to our attention.
The second disturbing issue that became evident was the lack of representation by many large law firms for the diverse community that is Toronto, as such Mehdi Au LLP seeks to be a truly representative firm, with the firm able to speak English, French, Filipino, Hindi, Persian, and Urdu.
Asim was born in Montreal and grew up in Toronto, Ontario. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree specializing in International Relations from York University and graduated from the University of Windsor with his Bachelor of Laws degree.
He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2004, and articled with a boutique Family/Real Estate law firm in Brampton, Ontario.
Asim has since that time practiced in the areas of family law, corporate law, immigration law and real estate law.
His career has provided him with the privilege of working throughout the GTA. During his 9 year legal career, he has operated offices in the Brampton, Scarborough, and Markham this has given him a unique perspective in numerous courts, and an understanding of how each courthouse functions.
He most recently was an associate at a prestigious Bay Street firm as a senior family lawyer, and the sole immigration lawyer for the firm.
His involvement in the South Asian community has provided him with a unique insight into navigating the often difficult issues that arise in divorce, custody matters, property division and spousal support.
He keeps his clients’ best interests at the forefront of all his negotiations, Asim has an abundance of experience and knowledge whether your matter is in the litigation or negotiation phase of proceedings.
Asim is a firm believer in taking advantage of alternatives to court litigation such as mediation and out of court settlements.
This approach not only keeps the costs down but also ensures that both parties leave the process with a sense of achieving a fair and equitable resolution.
Asim has invested his time and experience in aiding the development of the South Asian community by performing duties such as working on the board of directors for the South Asian Family Support Services, and the South East Asian Consultative Committee.
He currently is the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Mehdavi Society of Canada.
Asim is a member of the South Asian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association. He received his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Windsor and his Bachelor of Arts from York University.
Asim enjoys giving back to the community that helped him in his career by dedicating his time to charitable causes.
He keeps active through his various sporting activities which include competing as an ice hockey goaltender year round, and participating in the Markham summer softball league.
