DR. NINA AHUJA
After completing her medical degree at McMaster University and then residency training in ophthalmology at University of Ottawa, Dr. Ahuja began her surgical practice in Hamilton in 2003. She is a high-volume cataract surgeon who also performs minor eyelid procedures including lid repositioning procedures, biopsies, and removal of cosmetic lumps and bumps.
With an interest in teaching, Dr Ahuja has been a key contributor in establishing and developing the Ophthalmology Residency Program at McMaster University, a program that began in 2005. She has earned numerous awards for excellence in teaching cataract surgery, and for contributions to medical education.
Dr. Ahuja was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor in 2010 and was Residency Program Director from 2011-15 when she created and implemented a successful surgical teaching plan for cataract surgery that resulted in the highest numbers of successful cataract surgery procedures completed by graduating residents in ophthalmology, when compared to graduates from fellow programs across Canada and the United States. She was promoted to McMaster Ophthalmology Division Head in 2018 and has been an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for Ophthalmology since 2013.
A Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders, Dr. Ahuja is an executive member of the Medical Staff Association and member of the Medical Advisory Committee, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
