Azam Murji is a Toronto Criminal Defence Lawyer since 1997 and acts as criminal counsel at all levels of court in Ontario.
Azam Murji has represented an extensive number of clients charged with serious criminal offences on Summary Conviction and Indictable matters.
Azam Murji has conducted numerous criminal jury and judge-alone trials, summary conviction appeals and criminal bail hearings.
Azam Murji is a former part-time Assistant Crown Attorney for the Ministry of Attorney General of Ontario.
He currently also acts as a Federal Crown Agent for the Public Prosecutions Service of Canada.
In his capacity as a prosecutor, he has also conducted numerous criminal trials and thousands of criminal bail hearings on drug and non-drug related matters.
Azam Murji has been appointed on the Roster of Mediators for the Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program, Ontario Courts of Justice. As a Professional Mediator, he has conducted numerous civil and commercial mediations.
In his capacity as a Criminal Defence Lawyer, Azam Murji, is on the ESM (Extremely Serious Matters) Criminal Panel with Legal Aid Ontario and serves as special counsel for clients with mental health concerns charged with criminal offences.
Azam Murji frequently appears before the Ontario Review Board for his clients who are deemed NCR (Not Criminally Responsible).
Azam Murji also volunteers with several organizations in various capacities. He was an appointed member for the Aga Khan Conciliation and Arbitration Board and provides consultation services to members of the Ismaili Muslim community.
He has also served as Legal Advisor for the Aga Khan Council for Ontario and as Vice-Chair for the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board for Ontario.
Azam Murji also actively served on the Board of Directors at the West Scarborough Community Legal Services Clinic.
Azam Murji is a Member of the Criminal Lawyers Association and a former Instructor for the Bar Admissions Course in the Criminal Section for the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Azam Murji received his LL.B. from University of Ottawa and his B.A. in Computer Science from York University.
He is presently completing his Master in Law ( LL.M.) at the Faculty of Graduate Studies at Osgoode Hall Law School with emphasis in Dispute Resolution and Criminal Law.
