Namaste! Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Epics Mahabharatha and Ramayana, Shaastras, Granthas, Panchatantra, Jataka etc. are some of the ancient Sanskrit scriptures from India that have no record of 'date of first publication'. Some historians say that some of these could be several thousands of years old. Fortunately for us, they have been passed on from generation to generation by Vedic recitation/chanting, through carvings, through ancient leaflets and other means because paper and technology did not exist in those days.
So, to continue that tradition of passing it on to the next generation, I would like to offer FREE ONE HOUR SUNDAY ONLINE CLASSES to anyone who is interested in learning some of these scriptures with me (Upanishads and Vedas to start off). I am no expert in these scriptures nor in the greatest language called Sanskrit. However, I studied Sanskrit for several years right from my High School all the way to my degree in Arts (BA). I was also fortunate to learn Sanskrit from a teacher by name Sri. Vishwas, who was part of an institution called 'Aksharam' (meaning 'Alphabets') based out of Sringeri, Karnataka, the only one of its kind institution in India that promotes Sanskrit (an almost defunct language) as a spoken language. Askharam has been successful in teaching and encouraging more than 20,000 people to speak Sanskrit. They all carry a sign outside their homes: "We speak Sanskrit in this home".
Based on the response, and after atleast 5 students confirm, I will be starting online classes on Sunday mornings (once a week) for ONE HOUR. Start time will be at 10.00 am EST. I cannot confirm the start date yet but I will confirm once I receive a response and confirmation from 5 student minimum. The plan is to offer this online only in the beginning till Covid-19 restrictions are in place. Later on, I will offer this in person AND online.
Course Topics: Upanishads and Vedas (to start off) Will eventually go into other scriptures based on student interest
Pre-Requisite: It will be offered to anyone who has an interest. So, there are no pre-requisites or minimum age or no knowledge of either the scriptures/Sanskrit required.
Cost: FREE
