She associated at an office in Vancouver until 1987 when she moved to Waterloo, Ontario. She has practiced dentistry at her current location in Conestoga Mall ever since. Her passion for dentistry and love for her community is evident through her numerous volunteer initiatives, both locally and overseas. In her free time, Dr. Shamji loves to travel; however, these trips are not always for leisure. In January 2008, she travelled to Cambodia with the group "Kindness in Action" to provide dental care to those less fortunate and without access to adequate dental facilities. In the last two years, she has travelled to Tanzania, Africa numerous times with the Abulcasis Dental Alliance to help set up new dental clinics and enhance the quality of care provided by implementing sustainable and up-to-date protocols. These self-sustaining projects are affiliated with the AKDN (Aga Khan Development Network). In 2013 she made her way to Khorog, Tajikistan. During her time there she mentored the local dentists, did some volunteer work, as well as implemented office protocols including infection control protocol as per CDC to ensure the highest standards of care. Dr. Shamji went back to Khorog in October of 2015 to continue her volunteer efforts and teach local dentists about the most up to date techniques and materials as well as ensure the progression of the clinic toward first world standards. In 2015 she also travelled to India where she visited a local seniors shelter as well as an orphanage for young girls to provide her expertise regarding the setup of a sustainable dental clinic and all protocols that would need to be put into place.
Dr. Shamji also spent time in recent years completely renovating and updating Trillium Dental Centre with the most up-to-date equipment and modern decor. The goal of these changes has been to optimize the comfort of her patients and provide the absolute gold standard of dental care.
